Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori was an Italian physician turned Educator, through her years of working with children she came to the realization that every child is capable of learning when provided the opportunity. After observing children for many years, she began to develop her own theories and methods on educating children. Her methods address the whole child, social, physical, intellectual, creative & emotional. Teaching children the foundation of the skills they will need in the future to become responsible, productive, caring individuals.
Below are some brief descriptions of what each area of the Montessori method teaches.
Practical Life:
The Practical Life material is designed to develop focus, hand eye coordination, fine motor skills, grace & courtesy and daily life skills.
Sensorial:
The Sensorial material is designed to teach the senses, touch, smell, sight, taste, sound, shapes, size discrimination, order and prepares the child for language and math materials.
Language:
The language material is designed to teach, phonetic sounds, names of objects, printing, reading.
Math:
The math material is designed to teach numbers, quantities, order, addition, subtraction, place value.
Cultural:
The Cultural material is designed to teach children about places, people, animals, and land from around the world. It teaches children to be caring and accepting of others.
Botany:
The Botany material is designed to teach the children about plants, trees, flowers, fruits, vegetables, and how to take of our Earth.
Zoology:
The Zoology material is designed to teach the about animals, names of, parts of, how to take care of them, equipment needed or used.
